One session lasts twelve to twenty-four months, varying by product. The chin moves little and needs shape held, so a firmer product is used, and firmer products absorb more slowly and last longer. Placing it deep, over bone, also extends the duration.

Downtime is mild at one to three days, with swelling for a few days. Because it goes into a deep layer over bone, bruising is less than at shallower sites. The chin is filled in a forward direction, though, so before the swelling goes down it can look more projected than it really is.

Hyaluronic acid filler can be reversed with a dissolving injection. The chin uses firmer products, though, so it takes longer to dissolve than softer ones, and it may not all go in one pass, so it is sometimes done across several visits.
